Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 June 2026

Dayfare ("we", "the app") is designed to keep your travel data on your device. This policy explains what that means in practice.

Summary

  • Dayfare does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on our servers.
  • Dayfare has no user accounts and does not use advertising identifiers or third-party trackers.
  • Dayfare uses anonymous, opt-out product analytics to understand which features are used. See the Anonymous Analytics section below.
  • Everything you enter (trips, expenses, photos, videos, locations) stays on your iPhone.

Data Dayfare Uses Locally

The app stores the following on your device only:

  • Trips and expenses you create (name, amount, currency, category, notes, dates).
  • Photos and videos you attach to expenses.
  • Location coordinates attached to expenses you choose to tag.
  • Currency exchange rates cached for offline use.

This information is saved with Apple's SwiftData framework inside the app's sandbox. It is included in your regular iCloud device backup if you have one enabled. This backup is managed by Apple, not by us.

Permissions Dayfare Requests

Dayfare asks for these iOS permissions, and only uses them for the reasons below:

PermissionPurpose
Location (When In Use)Auto-detect local currency and tag expenses with where you were.
CameraCapture photos or videos to attach to an expense.
Photo LibraryImport existing photos or videos to attach to an expense.
MicrophoneRecord audio with video clips you attach to an expense.

You can revoke any of these in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security. Dayfare will continue to work; features that depend on the revoked permission will be disabled.

Anonymous Analytics

Dayfare uses PostHog to collect anonymous, aggregated product analytics. This helps us see which features are used, where users get stuck, and what to improve.

What we collect

  • An anonymous device identifier (a random UUID stored in your device's Keychain). It is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID.
  • Event names from a fixed list (e.g. "expense added", "trip created").
  • Allowed metadata: currency code, app version, OS version, locale country code, category names from a built-in list, counts, durations, and error reason codes.

What we never collect

  • Your name, email, or any account information (Dayfare has no accounts).
  • Expense amounts, descriptions, or any text you type.
  • Photos, videos, or audio.
  • GPS coordinates or location coordinates.
  • Trip names or expense identifiers.

Tracking and advertising

We do not use this data for advertising and we do not share it with data brokers. For this reason, Dayfare does not show the iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt. That prompt is required only when an app tracks users across other companies' apps and websites for advertising, which we do not.

Your choice

Anonymous analytics is on by default. You can turn it off any time in Settings → Privacy → Share Anonymous Analytics.

Website Analytics

This website, dayfare.app, uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and referrers. It sets no cookies, stores no persistent identifier, and does not track you across other websites.

This is separate from the in-app analytics described above. It collects nothing about your trips or expenses, because the website never has access to them. It applies only while you are browsing this site, not while you are using the app.

Third-Party Services

Dayfare fetches currency exchange rates from a public exchange-rate API. These requests contain only currency codes, never your expenses, location, or any personal information.

Dayfare also sends anonymous analytics events to PostHog when you have analytics enabled. See the Anonymous Analytics section above for what is and isn't included.

Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or disclose any data to third parties, because we do not have your data to begin with.

Children's Privacy

Dayfare is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and post the revision on this page.
