Privacy Policy

Dayfare ("we", "the app") is designed to keep your travel data on your device. This policy explains what that means in practice.
Summary
- Your trips, expenses, photos and locations never leave your iPhone. Dayfare has no servers of its own.
- Dayfare has no user accounts and does not use advertising identifiers or third-party trackers.
- Dayfare uses opt-out usage analytics, tied to a random device ID, to understand which features are used. See the Usage Analytics section below.
- Everything you enter (trips, expenses, photos, videos, locations) stays on your iPhone.
Data Dayfare Uses Locally
The app stores the following on your device only:
- Trips and expenses you create (name, amount, currency, category, notes, dates).
- Photos and videos you attach to expenses.
- Location coordinates attached to expenses you choose to tag.
- Currency exchange rates cached for offline use.
This information is saved with Apple's SwiftData framework inside the app's sandbox. It is included in your regular iCloud device backup if you have one enabled. This backup is managed by Apple, not by us.
Permissions Dayfare Requests
Dayfare asks for these iOS permissions, and only uses them for the reasons below:

You can revoke any of these in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security. Dayfare will continue to work; features that depend on the revoked permission will be disabled.
Usage Analytics
Dayfare uses PostHog, on servers in the United States, to collect product analytics. This helps us see which features are used, where users get stuck, and what to improve. There is no account, so the data is tied to a random ID rather than to you by name.
What we collect
- A random device identifier (a UUID stored in your device's Keychain). It is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID. Because it lives in the Keychain, it usually stays the same if you reinstall Dayfare, which lets us count returning users.
- Event names from a fixed list (e.g. "expense added", "trip created").
- Allowed metadata: currency codes, country codes, app version, category names from a built-in list, counts, durations, and error reason codes.
- Device information that PostHog's app library adds to every event: device model, iOS version, language, region setting, and time zone.
- Your IP address is seen by PostHog when events are sent and can be used to estimate your approximate region (city or country). It is not used to locate you precisely.
- Review feedback: if you type a note in the in-app feedback form and send it, that text is sent to us with your rating, and our team reads it.
What we never collect
- Your name, email, or any account information (Dayfare has no accounts).
- Expense amounts, notes, descriptions, or trip names. The feedback note above is the only text you type that is ever sent, and only when you send it.
- Photos, videos, or audio.
- GPS coordinates or the places you tag on expenses.
- Expense identifiers.
Tracking and advertising
We do not use this data for advertising and we do not share it with data brokers. For this reason, Dayfare does not show the iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt. That prompt is required only when an app tracks users across other companies' apps and websites for advertising, which we do not.
Your choice
Usage analytics is on by default. You can turn it off any time in Settings → Privacy → Share Usage Analytics. While it is off, Dayfare sends nothing to PostHog, not even the fact that you turned it off.
Website Analytics
This website, dayfare.app, uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and referrers. It sets no cookies, stores no persistent identifier, and does not track you across other websites.
This is separate from the in-app analytics described above. It collects nothing about your trips or expenses, because the website never has access to them. It applies only while you are browsing this site, not while you are using the app.
Third-Party Services
Dayfare fetches currency exchange rates from a public exchange-rate API. These requests contain only currency codes, never your expenses, location, or any personal information.
To tell you when an update is available, Dayfare asks Apple's App Store for the latest version, sending only the app's identifier and your App Store country. When you allow location, Apple's map services turn your position into a city and country name on your device's behalf; those results stay on your iPhone.
Dayfare also sends usage analytics events to PostHog when you have analytics enabled. See the Usage Analytics section above for what is and isn't included.
Data Sharing
We do not sell or share your data. PostHog processes usage analytics on our behalf as described above. Your trips and expenses never leave your iPhone, so there is nothing of them to share.
Children's Privacy
Dayfare is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
